2008 EQUINE EMBRYO TRANSFER PROGRAM

The Equine Breeding Clinic at Bennett Woodland Farms offers an equine embryo transfer program.  There are a number of ways to participate in the program; you may bring your mare to BWF for us to manage the entire process from breeding to transfer, or you may breed your mare at another facility and then bring your mare to BWF for us to flush and transfer. You may provide your own recipient mares or have BWF provide suitable recipient mares for you.  However, before participating in the embryo transfer program at BWF it is important for the Mare Owner to know the regulations of their breed registry.  Please review the following program options listed below.

Program A:  BWF manages the entire process from breeding to embryo transfer using one of BWF’s recipient mares. BWF requires a $250.00 non-refundable enrollment fee, reserving your mare a place in our program. The Mare Owner is responsible for all breeding costs on donor and recipient mare (palpations, insemination, flushes, embryo implants, drugs, etc.). Mare owner is responsible for health, farrier and any other costs for the donor mare.  After the recipient mare is confirmed in foal for 50 days the mare owner will be responsible for board and all care of the recipient mare. The mare owner will pay BWF a $2,000.00 lease fee when the recipient mare is confirmed in foal for 50 days. Mare is to be returned to BWF at mare owners cost once foal is weaned.  If mare is returned in good condition, as determined by BWF, $500.00 of the lease amount will be returned to the mare owner.

Program B:  BWF manages the entire process from breeding to embryo transfer using a recipient mare provided by the mare owner.  This program allows the mare owners to choose a recipient mare of their own.  BWF highly recommends choosing a reproductively sound mare, ideally one that has had a foal of her own or has been used as a recipient mare in the past and is between the ages of 5 and 12 years old.  A $250.00 non-refundable enrollment fee is required to reserve your mare a place in our program.  The mare owner is responsible for all breeding cost on donor and recipient mare.  Mare owner is responsible for health, farrier and any other cost associated with their donor and recipient mare.

Program C:  Donor mare and recipient mare are managed at another facility.  Donor mare and recipient are brought to BWF just for the flush and implant of embryo.  Flush and embryo implant fees are listed below.  An additional $450.00 will be charged to cover lab rental, cost of material and time.

Embryo Transfer Fees:

A discounted Ultrasound palpation fee of $28.00 (regular fee is $40.00)

All other breeding fees are according to the 2008 BWF breeding price list.

Price per flush: $500.00

Price to inseminate in recipient mare: $175.00

Communications is the key to a successful program.  The donor mare and recipient mare must be cycled together.  Embryos are generally collected from the donor mare on day 7 after ovulation and placed in the reproductive tract of the recipient mare by non-surgical means.  The first pregnancy check on the recipient mare is day 14 of gestation (7 days after transfer).

No Recipient Mare will be allowed to leave BWF until the entire balance of account has been paid in full.
